Pre-Race Routine and Warm-Up:
Had to drop the bikes off the day before and pick up packets. Went to the beach for the afternoon afterwards. Morning of the race, got up nice and early to do the drive from Lakeland. We still were lucky enough to find a spot near North Shore Pool. First stop was the port-a-potty and while in there, heard the announcement about the wind and possibly cancelling the swim. Sure enough, swim cancelled and the race turned into a bike, run event, without the swim being replaced by another run. Set up transition and grabbed my bike gear before joining the girls and Dave. It was a LONG wait til I started. Made a few trips to the port-a-potty, relaxed a bit, stretched some and ate some sweet biscuits. :) Finally, time to race.

Swim

n/a

Performance Comments:
n/a Swim was cancelled due to the wind.

What Would You Do Different?
N/A

T1

1:14

Performance Comments:
It was a time trial start, so we ran in from the swim exit, grabbed our bikes and ran out.

What Would You Do Different?
It was a bit of a mess with everyone trying to get their bike off the rack around you and I had a few girls that still weren't sure what "tire down on the side with your race number" really meant...so there were a lot of people in a small space. Overall, I thought I got in and out fairly quick.

Bike

1:13:49 | 40K | 20.2 mph

Performance Comments:
I was definitely happy with my time given the weather and the fact I hadn't done a lot of riding leading up to the race. Felt strong and definitely pushed it just to see what I could do and how I would feel on the run.

What Would You Do Different?
Train a bit more on the bike before the race.

T2

1:32

Performance Comments:
Get in, get out. That's about it.

What Would You Do Different?
Nothing, was happy with this transition.

Run

52:29 | 6.2 miles | 8:27 min/mi

Performance Comments:
The legs were feeling a bit heavy coming off the bike, but after the 1st mile I got into my groove. It was hot, as it always is by the time I get to the run. Started dying around mile 4, but held on.

What Would You Do Different?
Do some more brick workouts before the race to get used to that heavy feeling again.

Post Race Activities and Cool Down:
WATER!!! Hydrated, talked to the girls and then got some food.

Event Comments:
I was really disappointed they didn't replace the swim with a short run to make it a true duathlon. Felt like we got cheated a bit. Also, I'm not impressed with the fact the bike course includes speed bumps...not too safe and saw a big crash on one.

Would You Do This Race Again?
Probably
