Pre-Race Routine and Warm-Up: Ate a banana when I got up and a Clif Bar on the way to the shuttle. Once we got to the start line area, hit the port-a-potties once, went for an easy mile jog to loosen up, hit the port-a-potty again, rounded the gang up for a "Smith Sports" cheer and then headed to my corral.

Performance Comments: It's soooo hard to start off slow when everyone is flying by you, but it made all the difference in the world at the end! It’s also amazing what a difference cooler temperatures and lower humidity will do for you. My HR was ~10 bpm lower than normal. I felt great and had my best half marathon yet! I had the course a tenth of a mile too long, so I like thinking I actually went a 1:46. :)
What Would You Do Different? Not a whole lot
Post Race Activities and Cool Down: Walked through the cool down area collecting as much food and drink as I could, then headed to the reunion area to meet up with the others. Soaked my legs in the ocean for a bit and then went back out on the boardwalk to cheer on everyone else finishing.
Event Comments: This is a great race! It's flat and fast! There are bands and/or cheering sections every mile. The road before you get to Camp Pendelton is really pretty...felt like I was running back in MI. Only bad thing about the race was it was slightly longer than 13.1 mi, and boy did that boardwalk seem long when you were almost done!
Would You Do This Race Again? Yup, we will definitely be back at some point.
